TEC Rewards Distribution - September 2021

This period covers praise given between 1 September 2021 and 30 September 2021. We allocated 4020 TEC tokens for rewards, with a 100:0 split between Praise and Sourcecred. Some praise accounts still haven’t been activated so the total amount below will be less than what we set aside to distribute.

Out of the total rewards:

  • 90% of the tokens were given as praise rewards
  • 7% distributed among quantifiers :balance_scale:
  • 3% assigned to the reward board :memo:

This data has been reviewed by the Quantifiers and the Reward Board, and has been submitted for distribution to the Reward Board DAO

You can check out the full period analysis here. :bar_chart:

This post will be open to the community for review for 48 hours then submitted to the Reward Board for final execution. :heavy_check_mark:

EDIT(24/05/22): The three rows with “missing username” correspond to reward board members who chose to receive their rewardboard rewards in a wallet different from the one they signed up for the praise rewards. In the September round, those members were Livia, Mitch and Vyvy-vi

yo nuggerino there’s a couple rows that say just missing username. is that intentional? thanks for the post!

You’re right, added a comment. The easiest solution would be to encourage reward board members to use the same address they signed up for praise

I guess we should really start focusing on the analysis and improve data accuracy having a dashboard is not enough to even suggest using this tool to reward people (from today’s stewards call). In my eyes this data is way worse than the old praise, how is even possible than in September before the commons upgrade Nuggan have 10x the value on Sem or 2x on Griff, using Nuggan who did an incredible work with the dashboard and all the community building with the debates just because he is the first one but the whole ladder looks pretty bad even looking at the bottom.

I’m bullish on praise, but this is the second time I’m commenting the data is looking not so good and there is no so much feedback from people building it, but rather than we are analysing the data bla bla but every iteration we just post them wasting a learning opportunity to improve the tool we all love and want it to succeed. I know it’s hard to remember what happened on September but we could use more Advice process.

Hope my words do not hurt anyone’s feelings because the only intentions it’s to have a better system, Mutual monitoring, :male_detective:

Zep looking at the data there’s a few things I notice using Sem as an example

This is from Round 3 - September 2021- The round is question.

You can see we suffer from very low quality praise. The praise that was dished wasn’t very descriptive or was transcribed, implicitly not having a lot of context attached to it. Also Sem wasn’t really praised much.

A few exceptional things we should consider:

  • That we are retroactively quantifying praise from many months ago.
  • The quantification process was still in active development, the quantifier pool had lots of new quantifiers when this was quantified.
  • The highturn over of contributors means that many of the people who would have been in the know of something that happened in september aren’t involved in the TEC or quantification.

I think that a few modifications like no longer transcribing praise, having better praise education, a smooth quantification process and onboarding and a clear praise dashboard UX will make a huge difference.

ALSO we should consider that the sourcecred distribution isn’t included here but people who were active during this time will be accruing cred all the same, meaning when we disburse rewards for July we will have all the cred people like Sem and Livia accrued by their activity in Github and the Forum. We don’t quite have the full picture of all the value captured here which might be skewing our perspective.

I’m up for some suggestions to improve praise, but let’s not forget the progress that has been made!
